Duggars' Favorite Indoor Games
50 degrees is the average temperature for January and February in northwest Arkansas, but it has been much colder than that. Yesterday, the thermometer dropped below freezing. How do the Duggars keep their kids busy when the weather is not in their favor? In her most recent Parentables article, Michelle Duggar shares her family's favorite indoor pastimes.
Four-Square: Using masking tape, the kids created a four-square court on the tile floor of their front entryway. Balls are usually an outside toy for the Duggars, but, seeing the fun that her children have had playing four-square, Michelle has made an exception.
We’ve had so much fun with only a few casualties: They knocked over a cup of hot cocoa when a ball bounced, but that’s it.
Layers (also called Fishbowl): Michelle explains the new group game that her family has recently discovered. Each player comes up with three nouns and writes each one on a separate slip of paper. The papers are placed in a bowl or hat, which is passed around the circle. Players take turns drawing a slip of paper, and everyone else has to guess what it says.
The first round, you get to describe it with words and hand motions. Then, the second round is just a one-word description. For the last round, you can only use gestures. That’s it. So it gets harder and harder every round. It’s a lot of fun.
Jam Sessions: Impromptu jam sessions are common in the Duggar household, especially during the winter months. All of the kids play violin and piano, and some have picked up other instruments, like cello, guitar, mandolin, trumpet, and harp.
They’re practicing, singing and enjoying playing music together. It’s a very special family activity.
